MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's and women's cross country teams each finished second among six schools at the Middlebury College-hosted Aldrich Invitational on Saturday. The men's team collected 75 points, while the women's side gathered 50 points.
The Panther men and women won both meets, as each scored 15 points. On the men's side, the Purple Knights finished second in a race that was won by a Middlebury squad that is ranked 10th nationally in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Division III poll. The Saint Michael's women also finished second, placing behind Middlebury, which holds the top ranking in Division III.
Sophomore Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga, Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) finished seventh out of 67 racers in the women's meet with a time of 19:11, beating six members of a Middlebury team that was the runner-up at the NCAA Championship a season ago. Sophomore Colleen Gilliatt (Grantham, N.H./Lebanon) placed 13th at 20:02, while senior Jennifer Labrenz (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) and sophomore Lindy Heffernan (Sutton Mills, N.H./Kearsarge Regional) finished 14th and 15th, respectively, at 20:42 and 20:51. Sophomore Allie Gratton (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) rounded out the Purple Knights' top five, finishing 17th at 21:10.
Senior Colin Delaney (Lake Placid, N.Y./National Sports Academy) led the Saint Michael's men's team with a 12th-place finish and a time of 27:50 in a 75-person field. Sophomores Alex Gilgore (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville Senior) and Peter McKenna (Cohasset, Mass./Brooks School) finished four seconds apart in 23rd and 24th, respectively, in 29:24 and 29:28. First-year Jack Loomis (Eastham, Mass./Nauset Regional) ran a 29:49 and placed 26th, while junior Dana Glubiak (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) finished at 30:27 to place 30th.
Both Saint Michael's teams are back in action on Sept. 29, when they compete at the Vermont Intercollegiate Championship on the campus of Lyndon State College. The men begin at 11 a.m. and the women start at 12 p.m.
