TROY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened up a two-meet weekend with losses to The College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's (RPI) Robison Pool. The 3-2 Purple Knight women fell by a 134-89 count to the 6-4 Golden Knights, while the Saint Michael's men slipped to 1-4 with a 152-72 setback against the hosts, who are 5-5.
First-year Lindsay McNall (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) played a hand in three victories for the Purple and Gold women, including capturing the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.95 - just 0.14 seconds shy of her own school record - and the 200-yard freestyle at 1:59.70. McNall also completed a leg for the victorious 400 free relay, joining senior Julie Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) and juniors Kim Brady (Morris Township, N.J./Academy of Saint Elizabeth) and Steph Nadow (Charlton, Mass./Saint Peter-Marian) to touch the wall in a cumulative 3:52.32 and win by 4.6 seconds.
Mullowney added a win in the 50 free, in 26.34, while Brady was third at 26.87. Nadow captured the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.85 while joining Mullowney and first-years Lauren Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) and Katrina Wiesner (Bow, N.H./Bow) to take second in the 400-yard medley relay. Wheaton was second in the 100-yard breaststroke, while senior Jill Connors (Dedham, Mass./Archbishop Williams) took third. Wiesner was third in the 100 free.
Junior Joe Vo (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) posted runner-up showings in both one-meter diving events, with sophomore Nick Johns (Seaford, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) garnering a third-place finish in one of the one-meter dives. Johns also claimed third place in the 100 breast.
During the 400 free relay, the Purple Knights took both second and third. The second-place foursome was comprised of senior Jack Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side), sophomore Brandon MacPherson (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and first-years Stephen Andersen (Concord, N.H./Concord) and Cam Thirkell (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro), while the third-place squad included sophomore Sean Faust (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) and first-years Ryan Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham), Riley Faszewski (Hooksett, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) and Sean Glasheen (Lowell, Mass./Lowell). MacPherson was also third in the 50 and 100 free events.
The Purple Knights placed their top 400 medley relay quartet in third, with Thirkell, junior Nathan Paluso (Windham, Maine/Windham), sophomore Joe Thomas (Norwood, Mass./Boston College HS) and first-year Seth Boudreau (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) each swimming legs. Thirkell was third in the 100 fly at 58.47, just 0.06 seconds shy of the runner-up, while Boudreau and Paluso were third in the 100 back and 500 free, respectively.
The Purple Knights head to Le Moyne College tomorrow for a 12 p.m. meet, concluding a stretch of three meets in five days.
