SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's swimming & diving team captured seven victories on Sunday, but Le Moyne College notched all 26 points during diving events to pick up a narrow 153-135 win in the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan S.J. Pool. The Purple Knight men dropped a 184-96 decision to the Dolphins. The Saint Michael's men and women slip to 1-5 and 3-3, respectively, while Le Moyne's men are 6-0 and women stand 2-5.
The Purple and Gold, which was competing in its third dual meet in five days, saw its women head into the third-to-last event of the afternoon trailing just 122-117 before the hosts pulled away, thanks in large part to taking all 13 points in the second round of diving. First-year Lindsay McNall (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) played a role in four victories, including besting the 50- and 100-yard butterfly fields. She also swam for the top 200-yard freestyle and medley relays.
Juniors Kim Brady (Morris Township, N.J./Academy of Saint Elizabeth) and Steph Nadow (Charlton, Mass./Saint Peter-Marian) completed legs for both winning relays, senior Julie Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) swam with the top 200 medley foursome, and first-year Katrina Wiesner (Bow, N.H./Bow) was a member of the victorious 200 free relay. Mullowney captured the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke races, while Wiesner and Brady went one-two in the 100 free. Mullowney was also second in the 50 free at 26.40, Brady took third in 26.64, and Wiesner was fourth at 26.97.
Nadow was second in the 50- and 100-yard backstroke races, and Wiesner was second in the 200 free, being followed by first-year Catherine Morse (Hope, R.I./Saint Mary Academy-Bay View) in third. Classmate Lauren Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) nabbed second in the 100 breast and third in the 50 breast, coming within 0.20 seconds of second place in the latter. Morse and Wheaton joined sophomores Luci Franklin (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Lowell Whiteman School) and Catherine Tierney (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) on the runner-up 200 free relay, while Franklin and Wheaton sided with senior Grace Kahn (Fairhope, Ala./Bayside Academy) and sophomore Zoe Doucette (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) on the third-place 200 medley relay. Tierney placed third in the 1,000 free, and senior Maddie Craig (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) was third in the 500 free.
First-year Seth Boudreau (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) was second in the men's 50 and 100 back races, took fourth in the 50 fly, and swam for the fourth-place 200 medley relay. Boudreau clocked in at 27.13 in the 50 fly, being trailed by classmate Stephen Andersen (Concord, N.H./Concord) by just 0.02 seconds. He joined junior Nathan Paluso (Windham, Maine/Windham), sophomore Joe Thomas (Norwood, Mass./Boston College HS) and first-year Cam Thirkell (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro) in the 200 medley relay.
Junior Joe Vo (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) was second in both one-meter diving events, Thirkell placed third in the 100 fly and 200 free and fourth in the 500 free, and Paluso claimed third in the 1,000 free. Senior Jack Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) placed third in the 200-yard individual medley, and sophomore Chad Phalon (Wantage, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) finished fourth in the 100 back and 200 IM. Thomas swam to fourth-place showings in the 50 and 100 free events while joining Andersen, Paluso and first-year Ryan Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) to claim fourth in the 200 free relay. Sophomore Nick Johns (Seaford, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) was fourth in the 100 breast.
The Purple Knights are back in action next Sunday when they host Saint Lawrence University at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
