Men's cross country wins Vermont Tech Invitational, six place among top 10

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's cross country team won the Vermont Technical College Invitational for the second time in three years on Saturday, topping a four-team field thanks to placing six runners in the top 10. The Purple Knights scored 28 points to edge out second-place Paul Smith's (N.Y.) College by four.

Junior Ross Henry (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) claimed third place as the top Purple and Gold runner thanks to a time of 29:57 during his second college race. Classmate Torin La Liberte (Madison, N.H./Kennett) was six seconds out while nabbing fourth. First-years Liam Schmelzle (Saint Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) and David Baird (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) were sixth and seventh, respectively, in 30:59 and 31:02, while junior Cody Putnam (Alburgh, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) was eighth at 31:51. First-year Matthew Logue (Watertown, Conn./The Gunnery) rounded out the Purple Knights' top-10 finishers by taking ninth after crossing the finish line with a time of 33:02.

The Saint Michael's men are back in action on Sept. 26 when they host the Northeast-10 Conference Preview Meet. The Purple Knight women break from a bye week next Saturday at Middlebury College's Aldrich Invitational at 12 p.m.
