SPARKILL, N.Y. - The regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College men's tennis team lost to No. 45 Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 6-1, on Saturday at the Riley Family Tennis Courts.
The Purple Knights were 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Poll, while the Spartans won the 2022 East Coast Conference (ECC) Championship to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Their national ranking is according to the ITA, while they sit fourth in the region.

- Saint Thomas Aquinas took the doubles point to begin the match. First-years Mathis Billman (Brandon, Miss./South Carolina Connections Academy) and Julius van den Broek (Bergschenhoek, The Netherlands/Wolfert Lyceum) had a good showing against a pair that was seeded 16th in last month's ITA East Region Tournament, losing 6-3 at No. 2, before senior Josh Weiss (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) and junior Tristian Du Plessis (Rustenburg, South Africa/Hoërskool Waterkloof/Wallace State CC) fell by a 6-3 count in the third spot to the tournament's 11th seed.
- At No. 1, senior Jason Boucher (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) and junior Jackson Moser (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point) put together a 7-5 setback against a duo that advanced to the ITA East Region Tournament semifinals as its fourth seed.
- Moser began singles action with a 6-2, 6-0 loss at No. 1 against the eighth seed from September's regional tournament before Boucher suffered a close 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) setback in the third spot to the ITA regional's No. 7 seed. In the second spot, Weiss lost a 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 decision to a Spartan seeded 24th in the tournament.
- Billman grabbed a one-set lead over the ITA regional's 22nd-seeded player during a 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 defeat in the fourth spot, and Du Plessis lost at No. 5, 6-2, 6-3, to a player ranked 17th in the most recent ITA East Region poll. He also held down the No. 17 seed at the regional championship.
- Barroso closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-0 triumph in the sixth spot.
