Men's Golf Begins Two-Day NE10 Championship on Monday in Massachusetts

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's golf team heads to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Monday, when the two-day tournament kicks off at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass., at 8 a.m. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday before a one-round final day starts on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Senior captain Declan Buckley (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) and junior Peter Pagliuca (East Boston, Mass./Saint Mary's) have both led the Purple Knights at a pair of tournaments this fall. Pagliuca opened the year as the Purple and Gold's low man at the Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational on Sept. 10-11, carding a 77-75--152. He has shot in the 70s during five rounds while turning in an 80.9-shot scoring average. Buckley hit his stride at the past two tournaments, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University and Post University, averaging 78.7 shots over those six rounds, including 76.5 over the second and third rounds alone. His 79.8-stroke average is best among the Purple Knights who will compete at NE10s, as Buckley is around his career 79.4-shot scoring average.

A trio of rookies round out the championship squad. First-year Gavin Wiggin (West Hartford, Conn./Watkinson School) carded a 6-over 77 on Tuesday at the Eagles Invitational in his third career round, while junior Terence Moynihan (Stoneham, Mass./Saint Mary's) and sophomore Jack Fischer (Forest Hills, N.Y./Saint Francis Prep) competed in their first college tournament at Post. The Purple Knights are in their ninth season under head coach Jason Bedard.
