Women's Lacrosse Uses First-Quarter Surge to Down Division I Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - A 6-0 first-quarter run helped the Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team take control early during a 15-7 victory over Division I University of Hartford on Thursday on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. The Hawks entered the game as one of four remaining unbeaten Division I squads.

GAME FACTS

  • The Purple Knights played a Division I foe for the first time since hosting crosstown rival University of Vermont on April 3, 2002.

THE ACTION

  • Smith tallied at 10:52 of the first quarter to start the scoring before Stolz countered 14 seconds later, kicking off a 6-0 run that ended the frame. Murphy scored twice in that time, while Lynch had one goal and two helpers.
  • After first-year Sara Costa (8:51) and Ferguson (8:07) found the net 44 seconds apart to bring Hartford within three goals midway through the second, Stolz potted a trio of markers and assisted another in a 6-1 response to push the Purple Knight lead to 12-4 with 22 seconds left in the third stanza.
