Regionally-Ranked Men's Tennis Loses to No. 6 Williams

BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's tennis team capped a two-match weekend against nationally-ranked Division III squads with a 9-0 loss to No. 6 Williams College on Sunday in the Bennington Tennis Center. The Purple Knights were 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region poll, while the Ephs are sixth nationally in the ITA's Division III rankings. Williams is also third in the Northeast. The Purple and Gold faced Middlebury College, ranked third nationally and first regionally, on Saturday.

  • In just their second doubles match together, junior Tristian Du Plessis (Rustenburg, South Africa/Hoërskool Waterkloof/Wallace State CC) and first-year Mathis Billman (Brandon, Miss./South Carolina Connections Academy) lost just 6-3 at No. 1 to the ninth-ranked tandem in the ITA's Division III Northeast Region rankings.
  • Seniors Jason Boucher (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) and Connor Scott (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) lost 6-2 at No. 2, and senior Seb Tonini (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) and first-year Simon Lundholm (Le Luc, France/CNED) fell in the third spot during their debut match together.
  • First-year Julius van den Broek (Bergschenhoek, The Netherlands/Wolfert Lyceum) had a pair of close set losses at No. 6 singles, losing a 7-5, 6-4 decision. Boucher fell by a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) count at No. 3.
  • Junior Jackson Moser (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point) faced the 17th-ranked singles player in Division III at No. 2 and suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback. His foe was also fifth in the Northeast.
  • Senior Josh Weiss (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon), Billman and Barroso lost in straight sets at No. 1, 4 and 5, respectively.
