Softball Loses Pair of One-Run Affairs to 2022 NCAA Squad Saint Anselm

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College softball team lost a pair of one-run games to 2022 NCAA Tournament qualifier Saint Anselm College, 4-3 and 3-2, on Tuesday during a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Doc Jacobs Field.

THE ACTION

  • The Purple Knights left the bases loaded during a scoreless first inning before breaking through with three runs on two hits in the second. Hearn scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch before Devens added a sac fly, and Connor's two-out infield single plated first-year CJ Davidson (Canyon Lake, Calif./Vista Murrieta).
  • Caputo's RBI single plated Persechino, who had doubled with two down, the following frame.
  • The duo combined for another two-out rally in the fifth, as Persechino singled and stole second before coming home on Caputo's double to the right center gap.
  • Devens led off the home half with a double to straightaway center field before being stranded.
  • Arsenault's bases-loaded single scored a pair in the sixth to give Saint Anselm a 4-3 lead, but Hearn escaped a bases-loaded, no-out situation without further damage.
