COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College softball team closed its season on Saturday by being swept by Assumption University, 16-9 and 12-7 in eight innings, during a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Senior Day at Doc Jacobs Field. The better part of the second contest was played in a steady rain.
The Purple Knights honored seniors Hannah Arruda (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth), Jenica Botting (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy), manager Grace Erholtz (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd), Hope Hiscock (Schenectady, N.Y./Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons School), Sadie Pratt (Dighton, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional), Izzy Ruprecht (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake Regional) and Haley Waghorn (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) before the contests.

DOUBLEHEADER FACTS
- The Purple Knights finished 2023 with a school-record 60 doubles. Their 85 walks were second in program history, shy only of the 2004 squad (96), their 289 hits were the team's most since turning in a record 321 in 2007, and they knocked 10 triples, their most since 2009. The Purple and Gold's .268 batting average and .325 on-base percentage were its highest of each since 2009.
- Junior Meghan Connor (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans/Endicott) heads into her senior year with 96 career hits between two schools, while sophomore Jenna Devens (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) has 95.
- After picking up 50 hits as a rookie, Devens added another 45 this year, becoming the first Purple Knight with at least 45 in multiple seasons. Her 12 doubles were one shy of Ashley Harkins' '09 14-year-old school record. Devens drove in 28 runs, as two of the top four RBI seasons in program history belong to her; she had 30 RBI in 2022.
- Connor turned in the eighth-highest RBI total (22) in program annals and knocked 10 doubles, giving Saint Michael's a pair of players with 10 doubles for the second time. They joined the 2007 squad, which featured Lindsey Howland '08 (10) and Megan O'Connor '09 (12).
- Pratt scored 25 runs this season, the most by a Purple Knight since Harkins was plated a school-record 38 times in 2009.
- First-year Jamie Hearn (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day School) finished with the eighth-best earned run average (2.73) in school history, and the fourth-lowest by a first-year.

THE ACTION
- Mahan tripled home Dwyer before scoring on Bruggeman's single in the first inning, and five more Greyhounds scored thanks to four hits and two errors in the second. Scirocco added a two-run double the following frame, with Dwyer's RBI single ultimately giving the visitors a 10-0 lead.
- Saint Michael's chipped away in the home half, scoring five runs on four hits and two miscues. Devens knocked a two-run double inside the line in right field before scoring on an ensuing error. Waghorn drove an RBI double to the gap in left before coming around when Hiscock legged out an infield single and an error capped the play.
- The teams traded four-run fourth innings. Assumption's featured three unearned runs, while the Purple Knights' included Connor's three-run double and a Waghorn RBI single.
- The Greyhounds pulled away with single runs in the fifth and sixth stanzas.

THE ACTION
- Geremia's two-out RBI single gave Assumption a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
- Saint Michael's countered with three runs in the bottom half, as Pratt sent a two-run single to right field before coming home on Johns' double to center field.
