Men's Tennis Takes Six Doubles Matches at Connecticut College Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Saint Michael's College men's tennis players combined for six doubles victories on Saturday at day one of the two-day Connecticut College Invitational, jointly hosted by Connecticut College and the United States Coast Guard Academy.

THE ACTION
  • Brooker and Moser opened the day with a 7-6 (7-4) victory against a Springfield duo before suffering their lone loss in a 6-4 contest versus a Trinity team. They rebounded for another triumph in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), against Coast Guard and capped a 3-1 day with a 6-4 win against the host Camels.
  • In their first match as partners, Barroso and Du Plessis doubled up a Springfield tandem, 6-3, before besting a Trinity team by a 6-4 count. Against a Coast Guard pair that is ranked eighth in the Northeast and earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference laurels last year, Barroso and Du Plessis narrowly fell, 6-4. They finished the day with another 6-4 loss, this time against Connecticut College.
  • In Weijer's college debut, he and Li lost their opener to a Springfield team, 7-6 (9-7), before suffering 6-1 and 6-2 setbacks to Trinity and Coast Guard, respectively. Both earned their first college victories in either singles or doubles with a 6-2 triumph over Connecticut College.
