Regionally-Ranked Men's Tennis Falls Against No. 39 Adelphi in NE10 Play

QUEENS, N.Y. - The regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College men's tennis team lost to 39th-ranked Adelphi University, 7-0, on Friday during Northeast-10 Conference action at Commonpoint Tennis. The Purple Knights were ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll, while the Panthers were 39th in the ITA national rankings and seventh in the East Region poll.

THE ACTION
  • Adelphi swept its way to the doubles point, but only after a pair of Purple Knight squads took 2-1 leads. Senior Tristian Du Plessis (Rustenburg, South Africa/Höerskool Waterkloof/Wallace State CC) and junior Sergio Barroso (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Montpellier) suffered a 6-4 loss at No. 2 against a tandem that improved to 9-3 and was ranked fourth in the ITA East Region poll, while senior Jackson Moser (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point) and sophomore Julius van den Broek (Bergschenhoek, The Netherlands/Wolfert Lyceum) lost 6-2 at No. 3.
  • Saint Michael's faced an Adelphi singles lineup that boasts four of the top 20 players in the region.
  • At No. 1, Du Plessis lost only 6-4, 6-3 against the reigning NE10 Player of the Year, who moved to 13-2 this school year and is third in the region.
  • Sophomore Simon Lundholm (Le Luc, France/CNED) fell against the fifth-ranked East player in the second spot, Barroso dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to the No. 17 player in the third slot, and Moser won four games in a setback at No. 4 against the 20th-ranked student-athlete.
