Ashley Harkins '09 (softball) is among five 2024 Saint Michael's Alumni of the Year, while
Dr. Samantha Delaney '19 (basketball) is the 2024 Saint Michael's Young Alumnus of the Year. Both are former two-year captains of their programs. Harkins, who entered the SMC Athletic of Fame last fall after a record-setting career, is now a Connecticut State Police sergeant. She was recognized in March by the Carnegie Hero Fund with the Carnegie Medal for Heroism, North America's highest honor for civilian heroism, after saving a suicidal woman from the Baldwin Bridge in Old Lyme, Conn., in November. Delaney completed her doctorate in biochemistry from the City University of New York in February and has become an active alumna of Saint Michael's, joining the Alumni Board of Directors in 2022. She remains top 10 in program history in career rebounding and blocked shots.
Angela Armour '99, who played two years of softball and served as the College's Sports Information Director between 2000 and 2003 as part of a two-decade career working at the College, has also been recognized as an Alumnus of the Year. She, Harkins and Delaney were chosen for their accolades by the Alumni Association's Board of Directors and will be publicly honored on Saturday during the Purple and Gold Award Ceremony.
