Women's Cross Country Takes 9th, Men 15th in Deep Anderson Invitational Field
 
The Saint Michael's College women's cross country team finished ninth and the men placed 15th in a field deep with Division I, II and III powers on Saturday at Roberts Wesleyan University's Anderson Invitational. Sophomore Fran Peterson (Barron, Wis./Barron) placed 24th among 255 finishers in the women's 5K race, while first-year Jersey Miller (Minneapolis, Minn./Saint Louis Park) narrowly trailed in 27th. Sophomore Kennedy Holsapple (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) took 80th. On the men's side, junior Braden Butler (South Berwick, Maine/Marshwood) led Saint Michael's by taking 75th out of 334 finishers with an 8K PR of 26:49.1.
 
Field Hockey (1-7, 1-2 NE10) Blanks Molloy to Highlight Three-Game Week
 
The Saint Michael's College field hockey team went 1-2 last week, beginning by losing to Southern New Hampshire University, 5-1, on Monday and American International College, 3-1, on Wednesday. The Purple Knights blanked Molloy University, 3-0, on Saturday. The latter two games were Northeast-10 Conference affairs. Graduate student Bridgie Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) scored in every game and added an assist versus Molloy, while senior Addy Fenton (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) made three defensive saves against Southern New Hampshire to push her career total to 18, breaking Shannon Rice's '15 10-year-old program record (16). Junior Joelle Cameron (West Bridgewater, Mass./West Bridgewater) had a career-high 26 saves against Southern New Hampshire and four more versus AIC before senior Riley O'Connor (Canton, Mass./Canton) recorded five against Molloy. Senior Anna Comiskey (Highgate, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union/VTSU Castleton) and sophomore Grace Nigolian (Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial) joined Loughlin in the scoring column during that game, with Nigolian netting her first college goal. Loughlin finished the week sitting fourth in program history in career points (97) and goals (39) and tied for fifth in assists (19).
 
Women's Ice Hockey (0-2) Opens Season with Pair of Losses to No. 3 Clarkson
 
The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team lost twice to No. 3 Clarkson University, which qualified for the NCAA Tournament Frozen Four last season, to begin first-year head coach Meghan Sweezey's '10 tenure over the weekend. On Friday, junior Annika Lavender (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) made a career-high 69 saves before sophomore Kenna Dans (Marshfield, Mass./Lovell Academy) added 11 in relief. Graduate student Mary Leys (Newport, R.I./Saint George's School) finished 9-for-17 on faceoffs. On Saturday, first-year Jordana DeMarinis (Beeton, Ontario/Cambridge Jr. Rivulettes) stopped 53 shots in her college debut before Dans posted 16 in relief. First-year Ellie Newpower (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) blocked 11 shots during the series.
 
Men's Soccer (4-3-1, 1-2 NE10) Falls Twice Against Regionally-Ranked NE10 Foes
 
The Saint Michael's College men's soccer team lost a pair of Northeast-10 Conference games against regionally-ranked foes last week, versus Southern New Hampshire University, 2-0, on Wednesday and at Adelphi University, 1-0, on Saturday. Junior Garrett Smith (Gorham, Maine/Bridgton Academy/Bryant) made nine saves in the opener before recording eight more at Adelphi.
 
Women's Soccer (5-1-1, 1-1-1 NE10) Splits NE10 Pair, Wins Home Opener
 
The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team went 1-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play last week, losing at regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College, 2-1, on Tuesday before downing Southern Connecticut State University, 4-2, on Saturday during its home opener. First-year Scarlett Brookes (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) scored in both games, while junior Juliana Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Brookline) made seven stops at Saint Anselm and six more against Southern Connecticut State. Seniors Nathalie Larsson (Gothenburg, Sweden/Sjölins Gymnasium/Morningside), Emilia McGiffert (Duluth, Minn./Marshall School/Minnesota Duluth) and Claire Williams (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) also tallied versus Southern Connecticut State. The Purple and Gold is off to its best seven-game start since also beginning the 2000 season 5-1-1 en route to going 6-1-1.
 
Women's Tennis (2-6, 1-4 NE10) Downs SUNY Plattsburgh in Non-League Play
 
The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team knocked off the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, 6-1, on Wednesday. Sophomore Emma Gredenhag (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and first-years Annabelle Aldrete (Wichita, Kan./Andover eCademy), Katie Rocha (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) and Jedidah Xu (Ellington, Conn./Ellington) all won twice, while senior Emma Posada (Peru, N.Y./Peru) added a singles victory.
 
Women's Volleyball (4-8) Defeats Southern New Hampshire at International Volleyball HOF Tournament
 
The Saint Michael's College women's volleyball team went 1-2 during the International Volleyball Hall of Fame East Region Clash over the weekend at American International College, where the Purple Knights squared off with three 2023 NCAA Tournament qualifiers. On Friday, the Purple and Gold lost to the University of Bridgeport, 3-1, and host AIC, 3-0, before downing Southern New Hampshire University, 3-0, on Saturday for the first time in 13 years. Junior Dana Welch (Howell, N.J./Donovan Catholic) tallied 15 kills against Bridgeport, senior Alexandra Báez Rentas (San Juan, Puerto Rico/New Dimensions) had 38 assists and 17 digs, and sophomore Kyla Farnan (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) and senior Jillian Orth (Bourne, Mass./Bourne) totaled 25 and 23 digs, respectively. Báez Rentas added 18 assists at AIC, and first-year Anna Daggett (Hinesburg, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) had 11 digs. First-year Nora Schulze (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) contributed 13 kills on .400 hitting against Southern New Hampshire, Welch notched 10 kills, Báez Rentas had 29 assists and 17 digs, and Farnan notched 11 digs.
