Women's Lacrosse Edges D'Youville, 9-8

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team snapped a fourth-quarter tie with a pair of early goals before holding off D'Youville University, 9-8, on Wednesday at Dobson Field.

GAME FACTS

  • The Purple Knights improved to 2-1 in one-goal games this season.
  • Lynch leapfrogged Hope Alto '23 (96), Lauren Rizzotti '09 (97) and Brynne Curran '08 (98) to take over sixth in program history with 102 career draw controls. She also ended the day with 75 career points.
  • Barbato recorded the most caused turnovers by a Purple Knight since All-America defender Emma Coleman '21 also posted six on April 20, 2021, against Franklin Pierce University.
THE ACTION
  • Hamilton netted the opening goal at 11:35 of the first quarter before Bernas had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 response that took 4:52 to elapse, with Buck's woman-up strike with 3:22 left making it 3-1.
  • Conover and Lynch both turned in two goals and a helper in a go-ahead 4-1 counter, as Conover scored twice in 44 seconds to provide the Purple Knights a 5-4 edge at 8:10 of the second period.
  • After the teams traded 2-0 runs, with Buck and Lynch both scoring go-ahead goals, Gordon's extra-player goal with 24 seconds left in the third produced a 7-7 deadlock.
  • Sullivan scored off of Lynch's feed at 12:50 of the fourth before Adams' solo effort 47 seconds later pushed the lead to 9-7.
  • The Saint Michael's defense yielded only three shots in the fourth quarter while forcing the Saints to commit five turnovers. Buck netted her team's lone goal of the period with 1:15 remaining, but Lynch controlled the ensuing draw before the visitors ran out the clock.
