Softball Splits Midweek Doubleheader with Saint Lawrence

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College softball team split two non-conference matchups with Saint Lawrence University on Wednesday at Doc Jacobs Field, winning game one 6-2 and dropping the nightcap 13-4 in five innings.

THE ACTION
  • The Saints scored two runs in the first inning, breaking the deadlock when Kloft doubled down the left field line to score Johnson to make it 1-0. First-year Madison Connelly brought in classmate Emily Wendt on a sacrifice fly to left field for the second run of the inning.
  • The Purple Knights responded with four runs in the home half of the first, started by Davidson's RBI single with the bases loaded to score Vaughn. Booska singled up the middle to bring home Devens while first-year Brooke Bishop (Florida, Mass./Drury) and Davidson were brought home on a throwing error to give the Purple Knights a 4-2 lead.
  • Devens singled through the left side of the infield in the bottom of the second inning to score first-year Sophia Underfer (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills), making it 5-2.
  • Smith laced a double to the right-center gap in the bottom of the third inning to make it 6-2 as Booska scored from second with the game's final run.

THE ACTION
  • The Saints scored five runs in the top of the first inning to jump out to an early lead, with Wendt's two-out, two-run single the big blow.
  • Saint Michael's scored two in the home half after Edgerly came home to score after Devens' single and an error. Underfer plated Devens on a single through the left side to make it 5-2.
  • Juan singled in another run for the Saints in the top of the second.
  • Nordahl tripled to right in the home half of the inning to score Nickerson and make it 6-3.
  • Saint Lawrence tallied twice in the third inning, but Devens doubled to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning to score Edgerly and make it 8-4.
  • The Saints scored five runs in the fifth inning, keyed by Juan's two-run single, and Melanson retired the side in order in the bottom half to enact a mercy-rule victory.
