MIDWAY, Utah - Saint Michael's College Nordic skiing junior
Oliver Miatke (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and sophomore
Sam Friday (Carbondale, Colo./Roaring Fork) completed action at the NCAA Championship on Saturday at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center. Friday claimed 31st in the mass-start 20K freestyle, while Miatke was 35th. The four-day event featured the top NCAA Division I, II and III Alpine and Nordic skiing student-athletes.
CARNIVAL FACTS
- Friday and Miatke accumulated 14th-place points among 15 schools across both days of competition at the championship. Their two points were better than the three-skier Colby College squad (0) and were only two short of the two-skier University of New Hampshire team (4).
- Saint Michael's was fifth among seven Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) men's Nordic squads, and just two points short of fourth-place New Hampshire.
- Including Alpine skiing sophomore Isabella Knutsen (Bergen, Vestland, Norway/Norges Toppidrettsgymnas Geilo), Saint Michael's finished 20th among 22 schools with 17 points at the meet.
- Despite sending three skiers, the College was 10th out of 11 schools from the East, narrowly trailing Saint Lawrence University (18.5), Boston College (20.5) and Bowdoin College (26).
- The Nordic races at the NCAA Championship featured 40 starters, including 17 from the EISA.
- Host Utah won the national championship with 549.5 points.
