Hamilton Scores Final Four Goals, Women's Lacrosse Beats Assumption, 10-9 in Overtime

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Junior Ginnie Hamilton (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) scored the final four goals, including a strike with 1:46 left in overtime, to send the Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team past Assumption University, 10-9, on Tuesday during Northeast 10 Conference play at Duffy Field.

GAME FACTS
  • The Purple Knights defeated Assumption for the first time since April 17, 2010.
  • Saint Michael's won in overtime for the first time since an 12-11 victory at Saint Andrews (N.C.) University on March 17, 2011, in overtime during league action for the first time since a 16-15 win at Franklin Pierce University on April 6, 2010, and in overtime at home for the first time since a 16-15 triumph against Bentley University on April 19, 2008.

THE ACTION
  • After the teams exchanged the first six goals, three Greyhounds scored in a 3-0 spurt that gave them a 6-3 lead by 7:39 of the second quarter. The score held at halftime.
  • Conover fed Lynch at 11:33 of the third quarter before tallying at 8:09 to trim the deficit to one goal.
  • Loeber had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 response that pushed Assumption's lead to a game-high 9-5 with 1:45 left in the third quarter.
  • That proved to be the Greyhounds' final goal, as the visitors were held to only seven shots in the closing 18-plus minutes, with Amigo stopping all three shots sent on net.
  • Conover tallied at 1:06 before Hamilton scored her first goal of the night only 35 seconds later.
  • With her team still down two goals with less than four minutes left in regulation, Hamilton found the net at 3:40 before Drinkwater caused a turnover with 90 seconds to go. After a Purple Knight timeout, Hamilton struck for the tying marker with 51 ticks remaining.
  • MacDonald secured the ensuing draw, but Loeber's shot at the buzzer was denied by Amigo.
  • Senior Kailey Butler captured the draw control to start overtime, and the Greyhounds attempted four shots on their first possession, but Amigo stopped the only bid send on net.
  • Butler forced a takeaway to start a transition opportunity around the midway point of the five-minute stanza, but Barbato intercepted a pass to deny the breakout and started a counterattack. Following another timeout at 1:52, Hamilton possessed on the restart and went straight to goal, shooting above Cashman to the top of the net with 1:46 remaining. The tally was her fourth straight and capped a game-ending 5-0 run.
