Softball Swept in NE10 Twinbill at Southern Connecticut State

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College softball team lost both ends of a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader at Southern Connecticut State University, 9-4 and 9-6, on Sunday at Pelz Field.

THE ACTION
  • Owens' two-out RBI single scored DiMauro with the game's first run in the second inning before the Purple Knights plated three more two-out runs to make it 4-0 in the fourth. Owens and Edgerly both came through with RBI singles before pulling off a double steal, with Owens swiping home.
  • Ingersoll (fielder's choice) and Austin (single) both drove in runs during the fifth inning to make it 4-2 before the Owls went ahead with seven runs on six hits in the sixth. Junior Olivia Young led off with a home run, and first-year Christina DeNovellis knocked a tying pinch-hit RBI triple before scoring the eventual winning run on Ingersoll's RBI single.

THE ACTION
  • Graduate student Brianna Pearson gave the Owls a first-inning lead with an RBI single, and DeNovelli's two-run, pinch-hit single keyed a four-run third that provided the hosts a 5-0 advantage.
  • Saint Michael's pushed in front thanks to scoring six runs on seven hits in the fourth inning. Edgerly, Smith and Liimatainen picked up RBI singles before Branon's two-out, two-run single up the middle put the Purple Knights ahead.
  • Southern Connecticut State retook the lead in the home half, as Angiolini provided the tying RBI single before scoring on Cestari's two-out RBI double.
  • Angiolini added a sac fly in the fifth and Iaquinto a two-out RBI infield single in the sixth.
