COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team lost to Assumption University, 5-2, on Monday during Northeast 10 Conference action in the Tarrant Recreation Center.

THE ACTION

• Assumption captured the No. 2 doubles match before securing the opening point when junior Jaylin Bedard (Fairfield, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) and sophomore Annabelle Aldrete (Wichita, Kan./Andover eCademy) lost 6-3 in the third spot. McPherson and Xu capped action with a 7-5 setback at No. 1.
• Xu took a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles, improving to 14-8 on the season, before first-year Olivia Larsen (Riverview, New Brunswick/Riverview) lost 6-4, 6-3 in the second spot against the 10th-ranked player in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll. She is now 11-9, all from the top spot.
• McPherson leveled the teams once more by virtue of a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 1.
• Assumption clinched the match win while losing only one game between No. 5 and 6 singles.
• Junior Emma Gredenhag (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) staged the longest match of the contest, rallying from a 5-2 deficit in the third set to force a tiebreaker during a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) loss at No. 3.
