Since 2006, the NCAA has annually released data regarding Division II Academic Success Rate (ASR), a model developed at the request of presidents of Division II institutions to overcome inadequacies with the Federal Graduation Rate (FGR). The FGR only takes into account student-athletes that receive athletic scholarships, while the ASR considers all student-athletes, thus capturing non-scholarship students that represent a clear majority of the Saint Michael's student-athletes. The annual ASR data accounts for four-year cycles of classes whose members entered college at least six years prior to the release of the data. For more information, visit the NCAA's ASR/FGR database.
Since 2012, schools with a 90% ASR have been annually recognized with an NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Excellence.
