He is also an adjunct faculty member in the English Department and oversees the Department of Athletics' Student-Athlete Academic Success initiative.

Shortly after graduating from Saint Michael's in 2018, Johnson played and coached for the Woodville Lacrosse Club in Adelaide, Australia, that summer. He was an assistant coach at Saint Joseph Regional High School in New Jersey during the 2019 season before coaching the ensuing summer with the NJ Riot Lacrosse club. Upon beginning his graduate studies in Cork, Ireland, in fall 2019, Johnson resumed coaching the University College Cork Lacrosse Club, which he helped found while studying abroad as a junior.

Johnson returned stateside in fall 2021 and helped coach nearby Champlain Valley Union High School to a Division I state championship in 2022. He started club coaching with 802 Lacrosse that summer.

A four-year contributor on defense as an undergraduate, Johnson started 35 times in 50 career outings, totaling 43 ground balls and 37 caused turnovers. He added one goal and an assist. Johnson was twice named Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference and qualified for New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Academic All-New England honors as a senior. A 2018 graduate with a degree in English, the philosophy minor landed NE10 Academic Honor Roll nods seven times. Johnson received the Roger F. Keleher '15 Award his senior year as the top male scholar-athlete in the graduating class. He completed his master's degree in creative writing at University College Cork in 2021.
