Jason Hammel in women's tennis huddleJason Hammel heads into his seventh season as the Saint Michael's men's tennis head coach and second season as women's tennis head coach in 2023-24.

Through a national and international recruiting effort, Hammel has quickly turned the men's tennis program into a perennial Northeast-10 Conference title contender and regionally-ranked outfit. The Purple Knights regularly embark on a regular-season schedule that features opponents from NCAA Division I, II and III.

A long-time tennis pro with the Longfellow Tennis Club in Wayland, Mass., where he was director of the high-performance program, Hammel has cultivated some of the top talent in New England, including two-time high school state champions in each Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. Many of Hammel's players have succeeded in United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournaments, winning USTA National Level 2, USTA New England Open and USTA New England Sectional crowns. More than 100 of his students have earned regional rankings, among them 20 who have achieved national rankings.

Jason Hammel in men's tennis huddleA USTA regionally-ranked junior player, Hammel played tennis at Division I University of Hartford before graduating summa cum laude with a degree in computer science from Framingham State University, where he earned an Outstanding Service Award. Hammel comes from a long line of tennis players, as two grandparents are enshrined in the USTA Intermountain Hall of Fame, his father is in the USTA New England Hall of Fame, and various family members were named 2000 USTA Family of the Year.

Hammel is a product owner for web app company Trusted Local Contractors in Burlington.
