Kevin Hummer heads into his second year as Saint Michael's College's initial Assistant Director of Athletic Communications with the 2024-25 school year. In his role, Hummer aids the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Communications Department while also increasing the department's social media engagement through creating video series and various graphics featuring Purple Knight teams and student-athletes.
A native of Shrewsbury, Mass., Hummer honed his skills primarily as an undergraduate and graduate student at Western New England University in Springfield, Mass., where he was employed in the athletic department for five years. He worked in collaboration with the sports information director to create graphics, run live streams, compose press releases, and capture photos and video. In his time at Western New England, Hummer also assisted with game day operations and content management.
During the 2022-23 school year, Hummer gained additional experience with the College of the Holy Cross' Video & Network Production team. At the Worcester, Mass., school, Hummer created and edited video content for such sports as baseball, basketball, ice hockey, lacrosse, softball, swimming & diving, and tennis.
The prior summer, Hummer was a social media intern for the Westfield (Mass.) Starfires baseball team of the Futures League, creating social media graphics and serving as an on-field photographer. He was also social media coordinator and a regional scout for four years for the Prep Baseball Report. In summer 2023, Hummer was HUB Sports Boston's pickleball operations coordinator, managing guests, courts, scheduling and equipment needs.
Hummer earned both of his degrees from Western New England, completing his bachelor's in sport management in 2021 before finishing a master's in sport leadership and coaching in 2023. Hummer played six years for the Golden Bear baseball team in a career affected by the pandemic, compiling a 20-10 record and a 3.48 earned run average while striking out 188 batters in 234 career innings,. He landed on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) All-Conference first team in 2019, 2021 and 2023 while claiming a second team nod in 2022. Hummer helped Western New England win the 2018 CCC Tournament to qualify for the NCAA Division III Tournament, served three years on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and earned CCC Academic All-Conference in 2023.
