COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael's College used a
balanced scoring attack to defeat Carleton University, 66-43, in a
women's basketball exhibition contest on Sunday at the Ross
Sports Center.
For the Purple Knights, junior Adrienne Carpenter
(Princeton, Mass./Wachusett Regional) tallied a team-best
11 points, hitting 5-of-7 shots from the field. Classmate
Amy Pitchers (Oxford Mills, Ontario/North Grenville
District) and sophomore Megan O'Connor
(Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) added 10 points apiece for
Saint Michael's, which held a 59-38 advantage in rebounds and
held Carleton to just 27 percent shooting in the contest.
For Carleton, based out of Ottawa, Ontario, junior Susan
Shaw-Davis (Hamilton, Ontario) was the lone player in
double figures with 11 points. Sophomore Allison McCann
(Ottawa, Ontario) tallied seven points and three steals
for the Ravens, which connected on just 5-of-13 free throws.
Saint Michael's held a slim 23-22 lead at halftime, but
scored the first 12 points of the second half to take a 35-22 lead.
The Purple Knights led by at least 11 points for the remainder of
the contest, as O'Connor scored all 10 of her points after
intermission to help seal the exhibition win.
Saint Michael's closes its exhibition season on Sunday,
November 12, as the Purple Knights host McGill University at 1 p.m.
The Purple Knights' regular-season home opener is Friday,
November 17 versus Franklin Pierce College at 5 p.m. in the opening
game of the DoubleTree Tip Off Classic.
