COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College placed five players in double figures in earning a season-opening 80-72 win versus Queens (N.Y.) College in women's basketball action on Sunday at the Ross Sports Center.

For the Purple Knights, junior Alexis Keller (Harrington, Park, N.J./Old Tappan) netted 16 points, making 7-of-8 free throws. Sophomore Logan Pintka (Niskayuna, N.Y./Colonie Central) added 15 points and five rebounds, while senior Anna Florent (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) chipped in with 13 points, four steals and two blocks off the bench. Freshmen Caitlin Quinn (Oakdale, Conn./Montville) and Coreen Hennessy (Chatham, N.H./Fryeburg Academy) tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively, in their collegiate debuts.

For the Knights, sophomore Amanda Bartlett (Mesa, Ariz.) netted a game-high 20 points and seven assists. Junior Janine Maser (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) tallied 19 points, making 3-of-5 3-pointers, while junior Kara Otterbine (Wayne, N.J.) chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds.

In a game of runs, Queens used a 10-0 run early in the contest to take a first-half lead that swelled to 33-21 with seven minutes left in the opening period. Saint Michael's, however, closed the half on a 19-6 run to take a 40-39 lead at intermission.

The score remained tight in the first seven minutes of the second half, but a Hennessy lay-up with 12:38 to go snapped a 51-all tie, sparked an 8-0 Saint Michael's run, and gave the hosts the lead for good. The Knights pulled to within two points on three separate occasions in the final six minutes, but the Purple Knights made 16-of-23 free throws in the second stanza to hold off the guests for the win.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Wednesday, as the Purple Knights open Northeast-10 Conference play with a 5:30 p.m. home game versus Southern Connecticut State University. Queens returns to action on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. home game versus Post University.
