In a game of runs, Queens used a 10-0 run early in the contest
to take a first-half lead that swelled to 33-21 with seven minutes
left in the opening period. Saint Michael's, however, closed the
half on a 19-6 run to take a 40-39 lead at intermission.
The score remained tight in the first seven minutes of the
second half, but a Hennessy lay-up with 12:38 to go snapped a
51-all tie, sparked an 8-0 Saint Michael's run, and gave the hosts
the lead for good. The Knights pulled to within two points on three
separate occasions in the final six minutes, but the Purple Knights
made 16-of-23 free throws in the second stanza to hold off the
guests for the win.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Wednesday, as the Purple
Knights open Northeast-10 Conference play with a 5:30 p.m. home
game versus Southern Connecticut State University. Queens returns
to action on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. home game versus Post
