EASTON, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team (1-2, 1-2 Northeast-10 Conference) dropped its second straight road contest on Sunday afternoon, falling at Stonehill, 78-64.
Sophomore Nicole Adach (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) recorded her first collegiate double-double for the Purple Knights with a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Logan Pintka (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie Central) also netted 15 points in the loss, while freshman Cara Deroy (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) added 11 points.
For Stonehill (5-2, 1-2 NE-10), Kristen McWhirter tallied a game-high 24 points (8-of-12 from the field) and four steals. Emily Rousseau added 16 points and seven rebounds.
Saint Michael's held just one lead in the contest, 16-15 10 minutes into the game. The host Skyhawks retook the lead soon thereafter, and stretched their margin to dougle digits before settling for a 37-31 halftime advantage.
The Purple Knights were never able to mount a serious second-half run, as Stonehill led by at least 10 points for the final 14 minutes of the game.
Stonehill shot 52 percent from the field in the contest (28-of-54), compared to just 35 percent for Saint Michael's (21-of-60). Both teams were excellent from the foul line (Stonehill 18-of-19, Saint Michael's 20-of-22), but Stonehill's 38-29 rebounding edge was key.
Saint Michael's plays its home opener on Wednesday, hosting league-rival Southern New Hampshire University at 5:30 p.m. at the Ross Sports Center.
