CLINTON, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey
team (3-1-0, 2-1-0 ECAC East) suffered its first loss of the season
on Friday evening, falling at Hamilton College, 4-1.
For Hamilton (3-2-0), Anthony Ruberto recorded
a goal and an assist, while Brandon Broad,
Joe Houk and Michael DiMare also
scored a goal apiece. Scott Hefferman stopped
41-of-42 shots to earn the victory.
For the Purple Knights, senior Alex Higgins (Phoenix,
Ariz./Kent School) scored his second goal of the season
off of assists from sophomore Petr Soustal (Unicov, Czech
Republic/Gymnazium Unicov/Quinnipiac) and classmate
Josh Geary (Wellesley, Mass./Phillips Andover
Academy). Sophomore Mike Dizgun (Kirkland,
Que./OCN Blizzard) turned aside 36-of-40 shots in the
loss.
Hamilton never trailed in the game, but couldn't seal the win until
the waning minutes of the third period. The
Continentals opened the scoring 2:32 into the first period on
DiMare's power play score, but Saint Michael's evened the score at
1-all 7:22 into the second period.
Seven minutes later, Hamilton took the lead for good on Houk's
even-strength score. The score remained 2-1 until just 4:03 left in
the game, as Broad's first goal of the year gave the hosts a
two-goal edge. Hamilton completed the scoring with 1:21 to go on
Ruberto's 5-on-5 goal.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Saturday with a 3 p.m.
contest at Amherst College.
