HENNIKER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey
team (6-6-1, 4-4-1 ECAC East) completed an undefeated weekend with
a 2-2 tie at New England College on Saturday evening.
Junior Brady Earle (Columbia, Md./The Gunnery
School) scored the tying goal with 3:43 left in
regulation, while senior Alex Higgins (Phoenix, Ariz./Kent
School) also scored as the Purple Knights erased a 2-0
deficit. Senior Glenn Belmore (Cornwall, Ontario/Wellington
Dukes/Univ. of Maine) and junior Reave MacKinnon
(Winnipeg, Manitoba/Winnipeg Saints (MJHL)) assisted on
both Saint Michael's goals, while sophomore Mike Dizgun
(Kirkland, Quebec/OCN Blizzard (MJHL)) stopped 27 shots in
net.
For NEC (5-7-2, 3-5-1 ECAC East), Matt Abbott
and Nick Chandler each scored their first goals of
the season, while Aaron Harvey turned aside 46
shots.
The tie comes less than 24 hours after the Purple Knights 4-2
win at Saint Anselm College.
Abbott and Chandler gave the Pilgrims a 2-0 advantage with goals
3:30 apart in the first period. The score remained 2-0 NEC until
1:23 into the second period, when Higgins lit the lamp for his
fifth goal of the season.
The Pilgrims maintained their one-goal lead for the next 35
minutes, despite Saint Michael's outshooting the hosts in every
period. The Purple Knights' persistence paid off, however, as Earle
struck for his fourth goal of the season to force overtime. Neither
team could push one past in the five-minute extra session, with NEC
holding a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal in overtime.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Friday with a 7 p.m.
contest at Trinity College.
