Box Score COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team had a double-digit lead wiped out in a 52-47 loss against American International College on Saturday in the Ross Sports Center, as each of its past seven losses has come by nine points or less. The Purple Knight are 6-9 overall and 3-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 6-9 and 5-6.
Senior Coreen Hennessy (Chatham, N.H./Fryeburg Academy) tied a career high with 20 points, making her first seven shots, while junior Nicole Adach (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) notched a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four steals. Classmate Megan Olsen (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) had seven points, a career-best 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Senior Caitlin Quinn (Oakdale, Conn./Montville) hit a three-pointer to tie Anne Marie McLoughlin '91 for fourth in program history, with 147 in her career.
Sophomore Sarah Noble (Windsor, Ontario/Holy Names) paced American International with 14 points, going 4-of-6 from three-point range to lead her team's 7-of-15 charge. The Yellow Jackets entered the afternoon second in the NE-10 in three-point accuracy. Senior Marie Li Sicard (Montreal, Quebec/Dawson College) and freshman Alyssa Roach (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) had 11 points apiece, and senior Rhea Pascal (Pickering, Ontario/Notre Dame) grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Purple Knights turned an early six-point hole into a 36-25 early in the second half on Hennessy's bucket at 18:33. From there, American International went on a 24-4 run during a 10:26 stretch, going 5-of-7 from beyond the arc to grab a 49-40 advantage. Saint Michael's twice trimmed its deficit to four points in the final minute, including on Olsen's bucket at 32 seconds.
In the opening stanza, Sicard scored five points to help the Yellow Jackets push out to an 8-3 advantage, but the Purple Knights countered with an 11-2 stretch. Hennessy and Olsen scored five points apiece in that time, with Olsen's bucket making it 14-10 at 10:20. Adach gave Saint Michael's a 31-23 advantage on a pair of free throws with 57 seconds left, but a Pascal jumper produced a six-point contest at halftime.
