COLCHESTER, Vt. - Sophomore Cara Deroy (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) netted 18 of her career-high 20 points in the second half, and the Saint Michael's College women's basketball team used a 8-0 run in the final 49.8 seconds to rally past the University of New Haven, 64-57, on Tuesday during a Northeast-10 Conference contest in the Ross Sports Center. The hosts held the Chargers to just seven points in the first 12:33 of the second half.

Now 7-9 overall and 4-8 in the league, the Purple Knights held their eighth straight opponent to 60 points or less, extending their longest such run since early in the 1980-81 season. Deroy shot 7-of-15 for her 20 points while adding four steals, and senior Coreen Hennessy (Chatham, N.H./Fryeburg Academy) was 3-of-5 from three-point range en route to 15 points and three steals. Classmate Aquillin Hayes (Harlem, N.Y./Wings Academy) added eight points, 10 boards and three rejections. The Chargers were 10-of-22 from three but 11-for-37 from two.

Deroy came to life during the second half, as the hosts trailed 41-33 before she played a role in every point of a 10-0 run that took 2:58 to elapse. The guard, who scoring eight points and dished off on freshman Morgan Jenkins' (Revere, Mass./Revere) hoop, gave her squad a 43-41 edge at 10:16.

The teams played through five ties and seven lead changes over the final 11:24. After Tran's jumper beat the shot clock with 1:07 remaining to give her team a 57-56 edge, Adach hit a tying free throw at 49.8 seconds before rebounding the miss of her second freebie and dropping in the go-ahead hoop at 48.1 ticks. Deroy hit four more free throws in the last 38.3 seconds, as the Purple Knights converted three offensive boards in the final 50 seconds into five points.

During an opening half that saw 10 lead changes, Tran's jumper at 11:56 gave her team a 20-14 lead and were the first Charger points not accounted for on three-pointers. Saint Michael's scored nine of the next 11 points, with Hennessy tallying five, including hitting a trey at 9:29, putting the hosts on top, 23-22. Tran and Moore nailed back-to-back threes during an ensuing 8-0 run before Steinmetz's put-back at 1:48 had the Purple Knights down just 32-31.
