JACKSON, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Carnival kicked off on Friday, and the Saint Michael's College skiing squads stood 13th after only Nordic competed, as the Alpine giant slalom races were wiped out due to inclement weather. The meet wraps up tomorrow, with Nordic events occurring at the Jackson Nordic Center and Alpine racing at the Attitash Mountain Resort in Bartlett, N.H.
In the men's classic sprint, junior Colin Delaney (Lake Placid, N.Y./National Sports Academy) took 39th out of 89 skiers, clocking in at 3:50.15 to edge out a pair from heavyweights Dartmouth College (3:50.72) and the University of Vermont (3:51.35). Senior Robert Sitzer (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial) took 53rd, and freshman Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) rounded out the Purple Knights' scorers.
Freshman Emily Burns (North Creek, N.Y./Johnsburg Central) paced the Saint Michael's women in the classic sprint at 4:58.49, becoming the first Purple Knight other than senior Sam Martell (Georgia, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans/Saint Lawrence) or sophomore Gabrielle Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine/Fort Kent Community) to take the top scoring spot for her team since the 2010 Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) Championship.
Freshman Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and Naranja were their team's second and third finishers, respectively.
