STOWE, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College Nordic skiing teams wrapped up competition at the three-day University of Vermont Carnival on Sunday at the Trapp Family Lodge. Between Alpine and Nordic, the Purple Knights claimed 10th out of 15 with 300 points. Dartmouth College won the carnival, posting 916 points.
Junior Colin Delaney (Lake Placid, N.Y./National Sports Academy) paced Saint Michael's during the men's 10k free, clocking in at 26:23.6 to take 25 among 73 Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) varsity entrants. Senior Robert Sitzer (Lenox, Mass./Lenox Memorial) and freshman Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) were the Purple Knights' second and third finishers.
In the women's 10k free, sophomore Gabrielle Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine/Fort Kent Community) crossed the finish line in 33:30.1 as the fastest Purple and Gold skier. Freshman Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and junior Katlyn Keane (Bethel, Maine/Telstar Regional) took second and third, respectively, among Purple Knights.
Saint Michael's next heads to the Dartmouth Carnival, which kicks off on Friday. Alpine races will be held at the Dartmouth Skiway, while Nordic events are slated to occur at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vt., after originally being scheduled to be run at Oak Hill.
