WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team scored three third-period goals to defeat Assumption College, 4-1, on Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Charles J. Buffone Arena. With the win, the Purple Knights, who won for the first time at Assumption since 2009, improve to 3-14-1 overall and 1-3 in NE-10 play. The Greyhounds fall to 3-14-2 and 0-7-1. The Purple Knights are 21-5-2 against Assumption since 1996.
First-year Josh Dickman (Kapaa, Hawaii/Saint Paul's School) tallied a goal and dished out an assist for the Purple Knights, who outshot the hosts 72-31 and went 2-for-5 on the man advantage. Senior Kevin Lampron (Boston, Mass./Bridgewater Bandits), junior Jeremy Wong (Montreal, Quebec/Tilton School), and sophomore Kevin Altidor (Montreal, Quebec/Millbrook School) all tallied a goal. First-year Danny Divis (Media, Pa./The Gunnery) finished with two assists. Junior Dave Donzanti (West Chester, Pa./Northfield Mount Hermon) stopped 30 shots in net.
Greyhound first-year Ryan Gomez (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) scored his team's only goal while junior Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, Maine/Brewster Academy) picked up an assist. Sophomore Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn./Worcester Academy) turned away 68 shots.
After a scoreless first period in which the Purple Knights outshot the hosts, 24-10, Saint Michael's had an early power play opportunity 49 seconds into the second stanza. The visitors fired off eight shots during the man advantage but were unable to capitalize. The Greyhounds scored 5:01 into the period on a goal by Gomez. Saint Michael's answered back on its second man advantage, scoring at 2:59 after Assumption when Altidor tallied off assists from Divis and first-year Stephen Inman (Coventry, R.I./Odessa Jackalopes).
Lampron scored the eventual game-winning goal at 6:34 of the third period unassisted, and Dickman scored an insurance goal at 14:37 off touches from Divis and junior William Côté (Quebec City, Quebec/Rice Memorial Prep). Wong scored the team's second power-play goal of the evening 1:26 later to secure the win. Dickman and junior Eric Robinson (Williston, Vt./Berkshire School) both assisted.
Saint Michael's continues its road trip this weekend, taking on Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East opponent Saint Anselm College on Friday at 7 p.m.
