Box Score

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's basketball senior Maggie Sabine (Litchfield, Maine/Oak Hill/Central Maine CC) scored the 1,000th point of her college career on Tuesday as one of 11 Purple Knights to score during a 77-44 victory against Post (Conn.) University in the Ross Sports Center. Saint Michael's is now 6-3, including 6-1 at home, while the Eagles are 3-4 after losing for just the second time in five games.

Sabine finished the evening with 14 points and 12 rebounds in 25 minutes, improving her career total to 1,006 points in 74 contests between Saint Michael's and Central Maine Community College, where she was a 2013 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II All-America first team selection to cap her two-year stint there. Sabine had 657 points in 40 games at Central Maine and has 349 in 34 contests at Saint Michael's.

The Purple Knights limited the Eagles to 29.2 points below their season average while holding a 62-34 rebounding advantage, including 37-12 in the opening half, and yielding the visitors 22.0 percent shooting. The Purple Knights were seven shy of their 26-year-old rebounding record. Post actually made more free throws (17) than field goals (13), while Saint Michael's shot 43.6 percent from the field, employing scoring advantages of 58-14 in the paint and 16-0 on the fast break.

Sophomore Indira Evora (Somerville, Mass./Somerville) shot 8-of-12 for 20 points in addition to collecting eight rebounds and a career-high seven steals, and junior Megan Gaudreau (Brooklyn, Conn./Pomfret School) added 10 points and a career-high-tying seven assists to improve her career three-point total to 90 in 60 games, moving alone into 12th in school annals. Classmate Makenzie Burud (Red Hook, N.Y./Coleman Catholic) added nine points, 12 rebounds - including 10 in the first half - and four steals, while junior Morgan Jenkins (Revere, Mass./Revere) had six points and a career-high eight boards. First-year Tomi Akinpetide (Sydney, Australia/Rice Memorial) snagged seven caroms and dished out three helpers, junior Kelly Frappier (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) blocked a pair of shots, and sophomore Kari Lavalette (Williston, Vt./Essex) hauled in five rebounds in the first four minutes of her college career.

Sophomore Liz Falcigno (Middletown, Conn./Mercy) totaled 17 points and four steals for Post, and first-year Lexus Childs-Harris (New London, Conn./New London) had 11 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

With the last six points coming from Sabine in a matter of 1:08, Saint Michael's forged a 10-0 lead by 15:36 of the opening half, forcing the Eagles into missing their first eight shots in the initial 4:57. Two three-point plays sparked Post's 10-2 response, with Falcigno's two free throws making it 12-10 by 12:27, and the visitors still trailed just 16-14 with 9:38 to go. Saint Michael's posted 16 of the next 18 points, with Evora leading the way with six, and the Purple Knights claimed a 32-16 advantage while holding Post without a field goal during a 6:36 stretch. Sabine's lone scoring in the run was a driving hoop at 6:29 that accounted for the 999th and 1,000th points of her career.

Falcigno knocked down a jumper at 3:00 to cap a 7-0 run during which five points came on free throws, and the Falcons trailed 32-23, but Akinpetide countered with a hoop 53 seconds later to kick off a half-ending 11-0 run, and the Purple Knights never again led by fewer than 18 points, with the final margin the largest gap of the game. In the closing minutes of the contest, first-year Alaina Greaney (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) dropped home her first college hoop at 8:32, and Lavalette used her off hand to bank in the initial bucket of her career at 1:15.

After playing seven of their first nine games at home, the Purple Knights hit the road for the next five, beginning with a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Merrimack College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
