Box Score NASHUA, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team finished off an unbeaten three-game week with a 4-2 victory over Daniel Webster College on Saturday evening at Conway Arena. The Purple Knights, who are 4-1-2 in their last seven games, improved to 6-8-2 overall and 4-6-1 in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC). The Eagles, who are NEHC scheduling partners, slipped to 1-16.
Sophomore Colin Biebel (Roxborough Park, Colo./Walpole Express) notched a goal and an assist for the Purple Knights, and classmate Sam D'Antuono (Hingham, Mass./Dexter School) lent two assists while going 17-for-22 on faceoffs. Seniors Danny Divis (Media, Pa./Minnesota Wilderness), Caleb Lothian (Franklin, Vt./Rice Memorial Prep) and Connor Mitchell (New Milford, Conn./Kent School) scored once apiece. First-year Tim Decker (Liverpool, N.Y./Canterbury School) recorded 17 saves in his first collegiate appearance.
Senior Justin McKenzie (Hawthorne, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) added an 11-for-12 faceoff performance, junior Eric Salzillo (Johnston, R.I./Boston Bandits) went 12-of-16 at the dot, and senior Shawn Morrow (East Greenbush, N.Y./Kent School) was 8-for-11 on draws.
Sophomores Joe Hawkins and Tanner Todd both scored for Daniel Webster, and classmate Morgan Hudson made 69 saves.
The Purple Knights held a 24-7 advantage in shots during the opening period and carried a 2-1 edge into the first intermission. Biebel converted just 2:58 after the opening draw off of assists from sophomore Patrick Doherty (Tewksbury, Mass./Middlesex Black Bears) and first-year William Santangeli (Oakville, Ontario/Saint Mark's School), and Lothian doubled the advantage at 16:07. D'Antuono and Mitchell assisted. In the closing moments, Hawkins halved the deficit, finding the back of the net with 18 seconds remaining.
Each team scored once in the second stanza, when Saint Michael's outshot the Eagles, 25-8. In Divis' return to the lineup after missing the last three games, he tallied on a power play 2:30 into the period, with Salzillo providing the assist. However, Todd made it a 3-2 game 10:43 into the period, and the score remained until the third.
The visitors held a 24-4 shot advantage in the third period, when Dickman came up with the lone goal at 5:23, providing an insurance tally. Biebel and D'Antuono both notched helpers.
The Purple Knights return home on Tuesday to host Southern New Hampshire University at 7 p.m. for a pivotal Northeast-10 Conference contest. Saint Michael's and the Penmen are among three teams tied for first in the league, and the contest is one of the Purple and Gold's two remaining NE10 affairs.
