GAME FACTS

  • The teams played a preseason exhibition game for the second time in as many years after meeting in Plattsburgh last October.
  • Narby has never scored a multi-goal game during his career.
  • Ide netted two goals during his rookie season.
  • Eight players made their Purple and Gold debuts, as all 24 skaters and three goalies saw time.
  • SUNY Plattsburgh held slim leads in shots (36-29) and faceoffs (38-35).

THE ACTION

  • A SUNY Plattsburgh scramble outside the crease 2:30 into the game featured two saves by Decker and blocks by both juniors Paul McAuliffe (Newton, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) and Cameron Stewart (Sabattus, Maine/East Coast Wizards). A penalty was called at the conclusion of the sequence, and Araujo slipped the first goal of the game inside the right post from the left circle at 3:41 on the ensuing power play.
  • Poreda denied Schreiner's blast from the high slot with his blocker at 7:58 before Narby had a one-timer from the low left circle at 8:49 stopped after sophomore Matt Egan (Hingham, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) sent a pass from behind the net.
  • Narby had another couple chances around 12:30, having a shot from the mid-slot saved before grabbing the rebound and shooting again from deeper in the slot but being denied by an advancing Poreda.
  • Thomas doubled the lead at 15:14, picking the upper right corner from the low slot after taking first-year Adam Tretowicz's pass from the boards.
  • DiFelice made it 3-0 1:11 later during a power play, scoring from the left side of the crease after grabbing the rebound of senior Ryan Kuhn's saved shot.
  • Just 54 seconds after entering the game to begin the second period, Turcotte snapped up a glove save of Kuhn's shot from the slot during a power play. At 1:13, Hogg added to the Cardinal lead, firing from the left circle amid a 5-on-3 advantage.
  • Turcotte vacated his net during a delayed penalty shortly thereafter, and Narby skated from the left point into the right circle before picking the upper left corner to put the Purple Knights on the board at 3:03.
  • A harried sequence later in the period saw first-year Connor Redden (Southbury, Conn./Team Maryland) tip a shot during a power play from the slot that Fenton gloved at 15:34 before junior Noah Muller (Amsterdam, The Netherlands/Düsseldorfer EG) had a shot from the left circle blockered away 20 seconds later. Cardinal sophomore Daniil Ovchinnikov countered with a rush to the other end, but Turcotte denied the shorthanded bid.
  • With Turcotte prone in the crease and a little more than a minute to go, he made a save with his helmet on Kuhn's shot from in close.
  • Ide tallied 3:18 into the third period after being denied out front but putting home a second effort.
  • Narby cut the deficit to 4-3 at 10:01, one-timing a shot from the left circle off Foster's pass from the slot during a power play.
  • Lindberg made a nice left pad save at 11:00 from first-year Samir Abouelhana's bid from the slot, but the Cardinals reestablished their two-goal lead during a power play with 13:01 gone, as Schulte's pass from the goal-line extended was tipped out front by Bechard under the netminder's left arm pit.
  • The Purple Knights had two more good chances to chip away at the deficit, but junior Andrew Olevitz's (Winthrop, Mass./Northern Cyclones) shot from the left circle hit Wells' should around the 14-minute mark, and first-year Jeremy Routh (Hamden, Conn./New Hampshire Junior Monarchs) rung the right post at 15:55.
  • Lindberg kept it a two-goal contest with a little less than a minute to go, as Kuhn weaved through two Purple Knight defenders to get in close but was stonewalled by the goalie's left pad.
