PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team began its 2021-22 season with a 3-0 loss during an exhibition game at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in Stafford Ice Arena on Saturday evening. The teams met in a preseason exhibition game for the third straight season.

GAME FACTS

• Nine Saint Michael's players made their first college appearances.
• The Purple Knights went 43-for-67 on faceoffs and held a 17-6 advantage in blocked shots while only being outshot 24-18.
• Saint Michael's played for the first time since a Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinal on Feb. 29, 2020.

THE ACTION

• Turcotte made back-to-back saves around the 4:30 mark of the first period to keep the Cardinals off the board, but Hale followed at 5:32 with the first goal of the game.
• Ciancio had consecutive shots at 7:11 and 7:18 denied during a power play before a Purple Knight penalty wiped out the man advantage, and Hogg tallied with 9:01 gone once the Cardinals went on their own power play. Stockdale made it 3-0 at 12:13.
• The teams combined for as many penalties (24) as shots (24) during the final 40 minutes, with Turcotte stopping all 13 shots sent his way in that time.
