GAME FACTS
- The Purple Knights had won three straight in the series, all by one goal, including 3-2 on Jan. 4 in Cairns Arena. This was the fifth straight one-goal decision between the squads, while 10 of the last 11 have been determined by two goals or fewer.
- Seven of the Purple and Gold's 10 losses have come by two goals or less, including five of six in NE10 play.
- In an even contest, Saint Anselm held slim edges in shots (37-34) and faceoff wins (34-31).
THE ACTION
- For the second straight game, Dorval netted the first marker, cracking the scoring column at 2:32 of the first period after Narby's stretch pass from his own left circle found Dorval streaking down the middle of the Saint Anselm zone. Dorval deked Howard before finishing out front.
- Saint Anselm tied the game during 4-on-4 action at 18:49, as Andary's pass from the left circle found an open Leach out front.
- Just four seconds after the Hawks won a faceoff in the Saint Michael's zone, Andary passed from the left boards toward the edge of the left circle, where Schwartz snapped a shot glove side at 7:51 of the second period.
- Schreiner leveled the teams once more with 11:56 gone, picking off a Hawk pass into the slot to go in alone on Howard, who nearly made a glove save before the puck trickled across the goa line.
- Hayes provided Saint Anselm a 3-2 lead at 17:59, firing home a one-timer from the right circle with his team on a 5-on-3 advantage.
- Kantgias tied the game for the third time just 24 seconds into the third period, firing from the left circle during a 4-on-3 power play.
- Murphy made five saves in overtime to nearly earn his team no worse than a point, including denying Schwartz's quick burst in alone at 2:34 during 3-on-3 action, covering his 5-hole to secure the save. Murphy registered a pair of doorstep stops at 3:46.
- However, Hayes completed an odd-man rush with just 19.3 seconds remaining, finishing from below the left circle.
