GAME FACTS

  • With four games remaining, Saint Michael's is 10th in the NE10 with nine points, one short of sixth place in a conference that takes the top eight into its postseason tournament.
  • The Purple Knights ran their unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2) - winning their past three - while allowing only goal in that time. The undefeated run matches the Purple and Gold's longest since Oct 16, 2006, to Sept. 1, 2007.
  • Saint Michael's entered the day tied for 12th in Division II in save percentage (.881) and tied for 14th in goals-against average (0.50). The Purple and Gold has now allowed only five goals in 11 games.
  • With seven shutouts, the Purple Knights have tied the 2006, 2008 and 2021 teams for second in program history, trailing only the 1989 squad (10).
  • Escobedo notched her 12th career shutout, all since last season, to take sole possession of third in program history. Her seven shutouts this year are second in school annals, one short of Trish Hannan's '90 1989 record (8). Escobedo is also tied for eighth in career wins (10) with Gillian Goldman '08 and Brittany Cocozza '12 while standing ninth in minutes (2,834:13).
  • This marked the 27th time in its past 30 outings since 2019 that Saint Michael's played a contest decided by one goal or less, including the 14th 1-0 game.
  • The contest marked the 12th time in their last 13 meetings the Purple Knights and Chargers played to a one-goal decision, including the fifth straight 1-0 affair; the other game was a tie.
  • Saint Michael's held edges in shots (13-10) and corner kicks (4-3).

THE ACTION

  • Escobedo had an active four-minute stretch early in the first half, covering the ball in the 11th minute while under pressure from crashing sophomore Vickie Fleming before twice denying graduate student Alyssa McMahon, including robbing her redirection of a corner kick entry with a left-foot kick save in the 13th minute. Escobedo punched away McMahon's curling free kick from the left side of the box in the 15th minute.
  • Senior back Jordyn Morey (Chelmsford, Mass./Lowell Catholic) harassed junior Macy Litalien into firing a shot high from the left side of the box after having a good look following a teammate's long pass in the 19th minute.
  • First-year Riley Drosopoulos put a shot into the wind in the 40th minute that carried and drilled the crossbar.
  • DelVecchio's first good look of the second half came from 25 yards out in the 53rd minute, when she slipped a shot just over the crossbar.
  • Rogers won a loose ball late in the 57th minute before playing a pass back to DelVecchio, who launched another shot from outside the box and this time went bar down near the upper left corner at 57:04.
  • Fleming ran onto a loose ball at the edge of the box in the 77th minute and sent a shot right at Escobedo thanks in part to close coverage by senior back Paulina Valentine (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial).
  • After a pair of Purple Knight backs were taken out of the play, graduate student Mackenzie Myers drove the box in the 79th minute and looked for an open Litalien near the right post, but senior back Grace Rava (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) stretched out to disrupt the threat by clearing the ball out of danger.
