BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team capped a two-game New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) series with Stonehill College by losing 9-0 on Saturday in the Bridgewater Ice Arena

THE ACTION

  • The Purple Knights went on the power play 30 seconds into the game, as McGillis and sophomore Angelina Ruiz (Independence, Minn./Gentry Academy) both had shots stopped in that time.
  • After junior Mary Leys (Newport, R.I./Saint George's School) saw a backhanded shot turned away at one end later in the opening period, Stonehill quickly countered, with first-year Maeve Carey getting a step behind the Saint Michael's defense and finishing to White's glove side at 8:28.
  • Geist made it 2-0 with 17:00 gone, tallying from the right circle.
  • Squires banked a shot off of a sliding Purple Knight skater and in at 7:27 of the second frame, and the Skyhawks used another counterattack to score 4:38 later. After senior Maeghan Kennard (Hamlin, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) was stopped out front, Stonehill broke in the other direction, and Petford one-timed home first-year Gracie Sacca's pass from the right circle at 12:05.
  • Petford scored from the slot 47 seconds into the third period to begin a five-goal frame.
