BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team stood tied with mid-major Division I power University of Vermont at halftime on Saturday evening before losing a 78-58 decision in their annual exhibition game at Patrick Gymnasium. UVM qualified for the 2022 NCAA Division I Tournament.

GAME FACTS
- The Purple Knights outplayed the Catamounts in many facets during the opening half on a court where they comfortably went undefeated last year, holding advantages in shooting (39.4%-38.7%) and three-point success (38.5%-29.4%) while committing only six turnovers to UVM's 10. Saint Michael's notched eight steals, leading to an 8-0 fast-break-point edge, and was only outrebounded 21-18.
- For the game, both teams shot 9-for-28 (32.1%) from three-point range, while the Purple Knights doubled UVM up in steals, 10-5. The hosts committed 16 turnovers to the visitors' 17 and had a 9-8 edge in fast-break points.
- The Catamounts earned an auto bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I Tournament, drawing a No. 13 seed before losing just 75-71 to No. 4 University of Arkansas during the opening round.
- UVM was 16-0 during the 2021-22 season as one of 15 Division I schools with an unblemished home mark. The Catamounts averaged their home victories by 21.4 points, including 36.7 during a three-game postseason run en route to winning the America East Conference Championship.
THE ACTION
- UVM led 5-0 within the first 44 seconds before consecutive hoops from Crews and Kabimba cut the deficit to one by 17:10.
- Veretto and Sullivan both buried triples during an 8-2 run that extended the lead to 13-6 by 14:47.
- First-year TJ Hurley knocked down a three to make it 21-11 by 12:21, but Brown, Houde and Reid all drained threes in a 9-2 response, and the Purple Knights trailed 23-20 with 6:31 to go.
- Sullivan had a pair of buckets to help UVM push the lead to 32-22, but Saint Michael's ended the half with the final 10 points, including as Reid knocked down one triple at 30 seconds and another at the buzzer to send the teams into the locker room deadlocked.
- Sullivan converted a three-point play 68 seconds into the second half to break the tie, and his consecutive baskets made it 44-36 (16:02). Deloney later wrapped two three-pointers around Duniver's trey before adding a free throw at 14:48 to push the lead to 51-39.
- Another Deloney freebie produced a 54-41 margin with 13:46 left, but Milojevic put home a lay-in (13:30) before Houde (13:08) and Duniver (10:49) knocked down threes to bring Saint Michael's within 54-49.
- After being held without a point for 3:54 - and without a basket for exactly five minutes - UVM received a lay-in from Fiorillo at 9:50 that kick-started a 7-0 run, giving the Catamounts a double-digit lead for good.
- Duniver's three at 2:46 had his team within 67-56 before UVM scored 11 of the final 13 points.
