BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's basketball team lost to Division I University of Vermont, 72-38, on Friday evening in an exhibition game at Patrick Gymnasium.

- The teams met in preseason action for the ninth time in 11 seasons.
- UVM, which went 20-11 last year and advanced to the America East Conference Championship semifinals, was chosen third in the America East preseason poll.
THE ACTION
- Kapral's put-back had Saint Michael's within 4-2 at 8:02 of the opening quarter before UVM extended its lead to 14-2 on Utterback's lay-in at 4:07.
- Another Kapral basket brought the Purple Knights within 17-8 with 13 seconds to go, and MacDonough (7:45) and Slaven (7:09) buried three-pointers 36 seconds apart early in the second quarter to make it 25-14.
- Lyden's bucket with 1:09 left in the half had her team down 36-18 at the intermission.
- MacDonough's second trey created a 44-25 margin at 6:00 of the third quarter.
