Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College softball team split a pair of contests on Tuesday during The Spring Games at the DiamondPlex Softball Complex. The Purple Knights were felled in the opener by Minot State (N.D.) University, 5-0, before downing Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 13-5 in six innings.

THE ACTION
- Shwaluk and Watson both knocked two-out, two-run singles to give Minot State a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
- Hiscock and Johnson both picked up singles in the home half, but a pair of fielder's choices erased them.
- Watson's squeeze pushed the lead to 5-0 in the third.
- Cherry and Simpson combined to allow only three of the final 17 Beaver hitters reach.
- The Purple Knights nearly broke through in the sixth, as Hiscock and Johnson both singled, but an errant outfield throw led to a Saint Michael's runner being caught off of a base for the final out.

GAME FACTS
- The teams had their second meeting, and first since March 17, 2017, a 1-0 Indiana win.
- Devens earned her first college victory.
- Welter knocked her fourth home run of the season and Johns the first of her career.
- With 10 home runs through eight games, Saint Michael's has already tied the seventh-highest season figure in program history. The Purple Knights have nearly matched their 25-game total from last spring, when they swatted 13. Six Purple and Gold student-athletes have gone deep this season.
- Every Saint Michael's starter had at least one hit and scored at least one run, while 11 of the 12 Purple Knights who appeared scored.
THE ACTION
- Sylvia's two-out RBI single gave the Crimson Hawks a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
- Pratt's two-run single tied the game in the second before Devens knocked a two-run double to give the Purple Knights a 4-2 lead.
- Pappas smacked a solo homer in the bottom half to make it a one-run game.
- Saint Michael's put the game out of reach with five runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth.
- Hiscock came through with an RBI single in the fourth before Waghorn and Welter swatted back-to-back home runs, with Waghorn's going as a three-run drive. Johns' two-run homer highlighted the sixth frame, when Pratt added a sac fly.
- Pappas had the second of consecutive two-out RBI singles in the sixth, but first-year third sacker Kaylee Morey (Stonington, Maine/Deer Isle-Stonington) snared a hard line drive to seal the win via the eight-run mercy rule.

- Wednesday vs. University of Minnesota Crookston (10 a.m.) and Shepherd (W.Va.) University (12:15 p.m.) in Winter Haven, Fla., during The Spring Games.
