Box Score 2 WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College softball team finished its 2022 season with a pair of losses at Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption University, 10-3 and 6-1, on Saturday at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's (WPI) Rooftop Field.

GAME FACTS
- Saint Michael's finished as the NE10 leader in home runs, with a school-record 35. The Purple Knights also set a program mark by being hit by 21 pitches. Otherwise, the Purple and Gold put together its best offensive showing nearly across the board in 13 years, posting its highest slugging percentage (.385) and on-base percentage (.309) and most runs (147), hits (259) and RBI (129) since 2009. This year's team matched that 2009 squad for the most walks (78) since 2007. The Purple Knights' run and RBI figures were both good for third in program annals.
- First-year Jenna Devens (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) ended the year with a school-record 12 home runs, finishing as the NE10's regular-season leader in dingers. Her 30 RBI were two shy of a school record, while that and her 50 hits were each the most by any Purple Knight in 13 seasons. Devens slugged .779 this spring, the best by a Purple and Gold player since 1980, and highest since the program was reestablished in 1990. She enters her sophomore year tied for fourth in school history in career homers.
- Junior Haley Waghorn (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) set a school record by being hit by seven pitches this season.
- Junior Jackie Cherry (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) made 31 appearances in the circle, tying for second in school annals, with the most since Meggan (Roberge) Dulude '07 had a record 35 in 2007.

THE ACTION
- Devens' two-run double to right field gave Saint Michael's a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
- Assumption countered with five runs on four hits in the home half, keyed by first-year Mackenzie Bruggeman's two-run single and a two-run homer from Sheerin.
- First-year Mollie Verreault's sac fly in the third extended the lead, and Geremia led off a four-run fourth with a home run. Teammates added an RBI single, double and triple later in the frame.

THE ACTION
- Devens singled up the middle with two down in the first inning before Waghorn was plunked, but the final batter popped out.
- Dwyer led off the home half with a single before stealing second and coming home on Bruggeman's two-out single.
- Hoops tied the game with a one-out solo blast the following frame.
- Assumption plated the winning run in the fourth thanks to an error, as Sheerin went first to third on a sac bunt, and an ensuing throwing miscue brought her home.
- A two-out walk to Sheerin in the fifth loaded the bases, and Larson sent a grand slam to left field to pad the lead.
- After Hoops' homer, only two Purple Knights reached, with Waghorn doubling leading off the fourth and Connor singling to start the sixth.
