EAST BURKE, Vt./JACKSON, N.H. - A quartet of Saint Michael's College Alpine skiers landed in the top 20 in Saturday's slalom, including junior Simen Strand (Høvik, Norway/Dønski VGS) and sophomore Eirik Kveno (Asker, Norway/Dønski VGS) both cracking the top six, as the two-day University of New Hampshire Carnival came to an end. Alpine races took place across the state at Burke Mountain Resort, while Nordic teams competed in New Hampshire at Jackson Nordic Center.
CARNIVAL FACTS
- The Saint Michael's Alpine and Nordic teams placed seventh among 15 competing schools, totaling 435 points to fall only 20 points short of sixth-place Harvard University.
- The University of Vermont won the carnival with 916 points.
ALPINE
CARNIVAL FACTS
- After tying for second in Friday's giant slalom, the men were again among the top three on Saturday, placing third in the slalom (107) to come within nine points of runner-up Dartmouth College. The women were sixth (52), just short of fifth-place Bates College (58).
- The men and women combined to tie for third in the slalom (159) with Colby College, exceeded only by UVM and Dartmouth.
- As a team, the Purple Knight men and women scored fourth-place points for the carnival with 328 points, only six shy of third-place Middlebury College.
- For the weekend, the men took third (206) and the women sixth (122).
- On a challenging day, 32 of the 80 women's starters did not complete their opening run, including three of the top nine seeds. Only 40 of the 80 starters completed both runs.
