THE ACTION

  • Blake scored the first five points en route to Saint Michael's leading 7-0 by 6:16 of the opening period, and the lead advanced to 13-4 when Slaven buried a three-pointer at 2:25.
  • Brophy's jumper still had the Purple Knights up 31-26 at 4:22 of the third quarter before AIC countered with a 24-9 run that put the hosts ahead by a 50-40 count with 3:38 left in regulation.
  • The visitors still trailed 51-43 in the late stages before Kapral put home a lay-up (1:19) and MacDonough buried a three (0:44) following a Slaven steal. After a tying three-point bid was off the mark just before the buzzer, Brophy's third-chance bucket while being fouled dropped at 0.8 seconds. She converted the tying free throw to force overtime.
  • MacDonough's triple from the left wing at 1:57 gave Saint Michael's its lone lead of the extra session, 56-55, and Brophy's block of a three-point bid ensured an AIC shot clock violation on the next possession.
  • However, Young's late steal led to Carbonell Muñoz's breakaway lay-up and free throw at 13.6 seconds, giving the hosts a 58-56 edge. The Purple Knights' final look at a winning three was off the mark just before the buzzer.
