Women's Ice Hockey Downed by Franklin Pierce to Cap NEWHA Weekend

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team capped a New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) weekend series against Franklin Pierce University with an 11-0 loss on Saturday in Cairns Arena.

THE ACTION
  • Gyurko made a goal line stop of Casey's backhanded shot at the goal line before denying Kelley's follow-up bid at 6:54 of the opening frame.
  • Senior Emma Kelly (Dorchester, Mass./Boston Latin School) got behind the defense for a one-timer at 10:09 off of classmate Mikaela Langbacka's (Lorton, Va./Washington Pride) feed that Klunowski denied, and senior Darby Rich (Melrose, Mass./Tilton School) had another good look eight seconds later.
  • Junior Alyssa Kawa rung the crossbar with 10:40 gone during an odd-woman rush.
  • The Purple Knights peppered the Raven net with four shots in 20 seconds during a power play in the latter portion of the frame, but Klunowski stopped them all.
  • Kelley put the Ravens on the board with 17:39 gone, going glove side on Gyurko. Only 1:26 later, sophomore Grace Schuck pushed in a rebound off a scramble out front.
  • Franklin Pierce sealed the victory with five goals in the second period and four in the third, as Ruiz and Kawa both scored in the opening four minutes of the second to make it 4-0.
