THE ACTION
- The Purple Knights jumped out to a 12-6 lead in set No. 1 led by two kills each from Patterson and Syverson, as a 7-1 run broke a 5-all tie. After Assumption drew within 18-14, Patterson struck three straight kills during a 5-1 spurt to make the score 23-15. The Greyhounds tried to rally, scoring four straight points to close the gap, but the Purple Knights capped off the set with another kill from Patterson and an ace from Farnan.
- Almeida's kill sparked a 5-0 run in set No. 2 that gave her team a 5-1 lead. Assumption surged for six straight points to take the lead, 9-6, on an ace and kill from Goodhue. The Purple Knights came within one point of the Greyhounds three times, including twice on kills from Patterson, before a pair of Goodhue kills in a 4-1 stretch pushed the lead to 16-12. The Purple and Gold scored five straight points to go in front before the hosts swung the lead in their favor, holding a 22-20 edge. Saint Michael's closed the set on another 5-0 run, as Patterson notched two aces and Almeida collected a block on the final rally.
- The Greyhounds jumped out to a 6-1 lead in set No. 3 as Distasio collected a block and two straight aces. The Purple Knights tied the set at 12 on a block by Welch, but the Greyhounds went on a 5-3 run with Goodhue collecting two kills to take back the lead at 17-14. Almeida had a pair of blocks in a tying 4-1 spurt, but Distasio turned in a kill to kick off a 3-0 run that put the hosts on top for good. The Greyhounds won the third set on a kill by Dean to avoid the sweep.
- The Purple Knights and Greyhounds played evenly to an 11-11 tie to start set No. 4 before Assumption twice led by three, including at 18-15. The Purple and Gold responded with a 6-0 run led by four Patterson kills to take the lead at 21-18, and another Patterson kill made it 22-19. Assumption fought back and tied the set at 22 apiece on Distasio's ace and countered a Patterson kill with one from Goodhue. However, an error put the visitors in front for good before Saint Michael's won the match on a kill from O'Connor.
