Men's Ice Hockey Earns 6-4 Victory at Manhattanville

RYE, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team scored three first-period power-play goals on Saturday en route to a 6-4 win over Manhattanville College, completing a weekend sweep in the Playland Ice Casino.

THE ACTION
  • McFarland tallied from the left circle with 2:49 gone in the first period on a power play before Saint Michael's scored twice more late in the frame on man advantages. Kantgias tallied from the high slot at 14:35, and McCarthy made it 3-0 at 18:52 after taking Taylor's feed down low.
  • Gregory got one back on a power play 3:28 into the second period, sending a shot through a screened Murphy.
  • Taylor scored only 2:01 later, but Bella converted another power-play strike at 6:40, tallying from the right circle.
  • Ciancio pushed the lead to 5-2 before the second intermission, picking a shot from the right circle during a line change at 16:28.
  • Valiants scored the first two goals of the third period to bring their team within one marker. Barry potted a power-play goal from the right point at 6:06, and Bella put home a one-timer from the right circle at 18:57 with Woods pulled for an extra attacker.
  • Murphy denied a Bella tying bid in the final 40 seconds before Ciancio and Taylor both blocked ensuing shots, and McCarthy sealed the win with an empty-net goal from the blue line with one second to go.
